How to keep light lit on 2011 Nautilus submarine ornament?

Hi -- I have a 2011 Hallmark Keepsake Nautilus submarine ornament that has battery-operated lights.  The lights automatically turn off after about 15 seconds even if I hold the on button down.  Is there a way to rig this so the lights stay on?  I can access the battery compartment but not the switch area.  There is a tiny space behind the end of the battery compartment where the switch activates and I wonder if I could put a tiny piece of copper or something in there to try to keep the circuit connected.  I am using the sub for a costume effect and I need the lights to stay on.
