Last week we received an email from Diane asking about some yarn ornaments she had.
Attached is a picture I took of three yarn ornaments that I own. I wrote to Hallmark for help. They replied that they couldn't help me. They directed me to your website. I am hoping you can help me.
I purchased these three ornaments in Twin Falls, Idaho, in 1975. All three came in plastic bags although I only have one plastic bag left. Here's my puzzlement. The angel and little girl look nothing like pictures I've seen of the early yarn ornaments. Mine are much cuter! The soldier looks somewhat similar. The one plastic bag I have left has a Hallmark seal on it with the number 125QX230-1 on it. I cannot find that stock number in any of my online research.
What do I have? Thank you for any help you can give me.
The first thing to remember about the Hallmark Yarn ornaments is there are many "variations" out there. Many variations are due simply to the fact that they were manufactured in different facilities. Diane then pointed out the different "Q" # here's what Nicki had to say -
Yes, different Q numbers were used on the "yarn package trimmers" which were very similar to the yarn ornaments. The package trimmers were sold with the gift wrap, and were available in different sizes as to work nicely with different size packages.
So, for example there are yarn angel ornaments and trimmers in 3-4 sizes the largest one being about 6" tall and smallest about 3"...and with different Q numbers as again they were in the gift wrap section, just as you would see different size bows to match up with different size packages.
There also is variance in the yarn ornaments as they were made in different factories and sometimes different years. I've heard that sometimes they would run out of a yarn and thus just switch to a different yarn. Although most of the variance I've seen was more in size than yarn. Yarn ornaments and trimmers can be confusing, as their are several variations out there.
