I just inherited approximately 680 Hallmark ornaments from a relative and there is no way we are going to be able to keep all of these. I have quadruplet 7 year old girls and we want to save some back for them to have and hand down to their children. We would also like to take them to Disney World so the plan is to sell the ornaments/collections that are collector's items and keep back about 50 apiece for my girls to have when they are old enough to take care of them. What outlet should I use to sell these at a fair price? All of these ornaments have their original wrapping and undamaged boxes and are stored in the Hallmark green and red bins. The collection started in 1981 and ended in 2008. My e-mail address is kthomas@carricoimplement.com and we are located in Beloit, KS.

Hi Keith, Well, the first step is to divide the ornaments into the "keep" vs "sell". Selling options include, 1. Listing them on ebay (time consuming, but popular option). 2. Preparing a list including box condition and asking prices and submitting it to secondary market dealers. At hookedonhallmark.com we do have a selling your collection link that gives you an idea of what we are currently buying, etc. However, at this moment we are flooded with "for sale" lists. 3. Sell locally via Craigs List, space in a local antique mall, garage sale, etc. The market is currently weak for all collectibles, so not the best time to sell. Keep your asking prices low if you really want to sell them quickly. Hope this info helps. Nicki

There is also a free board for ornament collectors that has a buy/sell/trade section. It's at Yulelog.com. From the homepage, choose Bulletin Boards, then from the forums choose buy/sell/trade boards.
You'll want to have lists of what you want to sell and what you're selling them for.
Using this board will mean that you may end up with multiple buyers (just like you will with eBay) and that may affect your decision on what you want to do also. You'll need to think about how many boxes and what sizes you have available/can obtain to use for shipping and also how many trips you want to make to the post office.
Are you a member of KOC? If so, you can go to kocmembers.com and find lists of local clubs. From that you could choose to EMail local clubs your list and offer to sell ornaments to them. You may find people who are willing to buy multiples from series that way.
I have a friend that I grew up going to church with in Leavenworth (she grew up in Lansing). You probably live next door to each other!
